THE FILMS “Die Beautiful” by Jun Robles Lana and Star Cinema’s “Vince & Kath & James” were named as the highest-grossing entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival 2016, based on ticket sales from Metro Manila and provincial cinemas.
The MMFF executive committee released the official rankings of the eight entries in terms of box-office gross after 10 days of nationwide screening.
It showed that “Die Beautiful” film featuring actor/host Paolo Ballesteros dominated the Metro Manila theaters while the movie “Vince & Kath & James” ruled the provincial cinemas, as per announcement last Wednesday.
In his Instagram, Paolo expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported the film.
“Die Beautiful is No. 1! More than the awards, box-office hit, maraming salamat sa bawat tawanan, luha at palakpak na ibinibigay ninyo sa aming lahat sa bawat pagtatapos ng pelikula. Thank you wooh! Nakakaiyak!,” he wrote.
During the MMFF awards night, Paolo was named as the Best Actor for his role as Trisha. The Best Supporting Actor award went to Christian Bables, for the same film. “Die Beautiful” also won MMFF Favorite Movie Award and Best Float Award.
Julia Barretto, who stars as Kath for the Star Cinema film “Vince & Kath & James,” has thanked everyone who supported the film in an Instagram post.
“Di namin akalain aabot kami dito kaya maraming maraming salamat sa inyong lahat na nanuod at sumuporta sa aming pelikula,” she wrote.
The official figures—for both Metro Manila and provincial theaters—were not released by the filmfest’s executive committee.
However, Star Cinema made public the overall earnings of “Vince & Kath & James,” which amounted to more than P100
million.
The eight entries are still currently screening in selected cinemas, as per request of the MMFF executive committee. It has been given the approval of theater owners to remain in cinemas until January 7.
In an earlier interview, Film Development Council of the Philippines chairperson Liza Diño said that she is happy with the financial returns of the entries, and even touted this year as a potential benchmark for future editions of the annual film fest.
