IN KEEPING up with the upbeat and constantly changing audience, YES FM Cebu starts fresh as they bring in a new set of programs and a new disc jockey on board starting today.

This, as YES FM Cebu changes its name to YES the Best Cebu.

Marlon Baula, station manager of YES the Best Cebu, said they changed the name for easy recall, as it is also proud, optimistic, energizing and playful.

“Our intention in rebranding the station is to develop a new differentiated identity of the minds of the listeners and the client,” Baula said during a press conference held at Rico’s Lechon at Axis in Escario Street.

With the emergence of social media, Yes is trying its best to be relevant, especially to the millennials, whom they have considered as the influencing and aggressive market, in terms of product consumption.

“We don’t consider social media as our enemy since there are connotations nga hapit na mamatay ang radio tungod sa social media. But no, we consider them as our ally. We embrace them. We collaborate with them and partner with them, like our Catch 22 Countdown every Saturday, a collab with Spotify,” he said.

It’s the same reason that they decided to have a new disc jockey on board–social media influencer Jomie Hospital, who hails from Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.

“We are hiring him in the hope that getting Jomie as one of our staff, hopefully mo-migrate ang iyang fans gikan sa Facebook.

Based on analytics kadaghanan sa iyang fans are based in Cebu,” shared Baula as he laid out some of his plans for the rebranding of the station.

He added that the move was part of making the station, number one again after its second rebranding, from Hot FM to YES FM.

“It was Hot FM originally and we became number one (when we rebranded). We targeted before the younger crowd with the emergence of boybands like A1 and Westlife,” he said.

“We were very strong. We hope it will repeat history,” added Baula.

The rebranding is simultaneous with other with YES stations in Bukidnon, Boracay and Dagupan.

Jomie: Get it on

With all the pressure coming from the anticipated success of YES’ rebranding, Jomie has willingly given in to the challenge.

“I did not want to accept this initially but they have opened my eyes to this entirely new thing, and that it can coincide with social media,” he said.
As part of his plans for his program, Jomie will make his presence felt by Cebuanos on air and on the internet.

“I will make hashtags, bring the discussion on social media during shows while my usual topics in my social media, like love tips, we will bring it to the radio,” he said.

Having no background on what his new job was all about, Jomie went on a 10-day training and it wasn’t a walk in the park for him.
“I can express myself through videos, as my

expressions have served as my trademark and editing videos is my strength,” said Jomie.

He shared that he did freak out during training as he groped for what words to say on air. He, however, said he is willing to learn, something that he was already prepared to do the moment he said yes to the job.

“Si Jomie nga nagsige’g adlib, mao na ang mabati ninyo puhon,” he said.
