CEBUANA beach volleyball phenom Cherry Ann Rondina added yet another hardware to her collection as she went on to bag the Most Valuable Player (MVP) plaque after leading the Petron Sprint 4T into winning the women’s title of the 2017 Belo Philippine Superliga (PSL) Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup on Sunday night at the SM By the Bay in Mall of Asia.
The Compostela, Cebu native Rondina, along with partner Bernadeth Pons of Far Eastern University (FEU), were remarkable from start to finish as they capped off their unbeaten run throughout the tournament with a 21-12, 21-8 demolition of Fiola Ceballos and Patty Orendain of Generika-Ayala A to win the women’s crown.
Also in the women’s division, former Southwestern University spiker Danika Gendrauli and partner Jackie Estoquia of Sta. Lucia were unable to bounce back from their semifinal loss as they suffered a mid-game collapse against the pair of Bang Pineda and Frances Molina of Petron XCS 21-10, 14-21, 9-15, in the battle-for-third match.
In the men’s division, former University of Southern Philippines Foundation offensive juggernaut Edmar Bonono and EJ Ramos tried to pull off all the stops but came up short as they lost to Anthony Arbastro and Calvin Sarte of Generika-Ayala, 21-17, 21-18, in the finals.
Cebuano siblings Rey and Relan Taneo of Perpetual Help also succumbed to the SM By The Bay tandem of former University of the Visayas Green Lancer Mike Abria and Edwin Tolentino, 19-21, 21-23, in the bronze medal match.
