AN owner of an electrical shop was shot dead by two men on board a motorcycle inside his multicab along E. Sabellano Street, Barangay Pardo, Cebu City past 7 a.m. yesterday.

Marcelino Escalante, 54, suffered gunshot wounds on his head and neck.

The suspects, who according to witnesses, wore full-faced helmets, also took the victim’s sling bag that contained cash — the exact amount of which has yet to be determined by investigators, said SPO2 Rommel Bancog of the Cebu City Police Office’s Homicide Division.

“We are still investigating the matter,” he said.

Escalante’s 53-year-old wife Marcelina was dumbfounded when she learned about the shooting.

“Nakalitan mi sa nahitabo. Wala may nasuko ana niya (We were surprised with what happened. Nobody is mad at him),” she told Cebu Daily News.
The couple has seven children.

Marcelina said her husband used to manage their small business in Pardo for about 20 years.

The victim was on his way to their shop when the assailants approached and shot him inside his vehicle with plate number LND 857.
Escalante served as a volunteer of the Crime Watch in Action, a group that helps authorities fight all forms of crime.

Investigators have yet to establish the motive behind the killing. /With Xavier University Intern Jeasselle Villalobos
