THE 2002 Lions had little trouble advancing to the semifinals as they routed the 2007 Waybus, 80-60, in their Division 3 do-or-die quarterfinal match in the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference (NABC) Summer League 2 on Saturday night at the USC North Gym.
Faced with a twice-to-win disadvantage against the higher seeded Waybus, the Lions finally let their roar be heard behind as they rallied behind former two-time Cesafi MVP Enrico Llanto, who submitted a near-flawless performance of 35 points, 18 rebounds and six assists.
The undersized forward shot all but three of his 16 attempts from the field to push Batch 2002 into the semifinals against the 2015 Assassins.
The Summer League 2 semifinal games were still being played in as of this writing.
The other semis match-up in Division 3 will see the top-ranked 2008 Flyboys take on the 2010 Pioneers.
In Division 1, the 1994 Bulldogs were set to battle the 1988 Barako while the 1993 Bulldogs are matched up against the 1985 Legends.
In Division 2, the 1998 Sipat were duking it out against the 2001 Lite Shipping while the 1997 Ronins were squaring up against the 1999ers.
