EDWEL Alesna scored 6.0 points in seven rounds on Sunday then beat Hector Villamora in the tie-break to rule the 1st Doc Stanley Caminero Invitational Chess Tournament at the Secretary Cerge M. Remonde Sports and Cultural Center in Argao, south Cebu.
Alesna, a product and a former member of the Southwestern University varsity team and Villamora each received P6,000.Paolo Zeux Cuizon tallied 5.5 points to finish third and pocket P3,000.
Making it to the Top 10 were Victor Clapano, Julius Albina, Randolf Borces, Vicente Canada, Asher Gealon, Kenneth Quindala, Percival Fiel and Arnel Montayre.
Meanwhile, the top finishers in the Juniors and Kiddies categories were Myce Justine Guradillo and Abegail Ros Montayre, respectively.
The tournament was sanctioned by the National Chess Organization and was sponsored by Argao Mayor Stanley S. Caminero, Argao Sports Commission, MRH Saint Michael Clinical Laboratory, Cobweb Gamefowl Farm, Community Water and Sanitation Service Cooperative, Jessie’s Torta, Jessie Magallones, Engr. Randy Villaflor, Villegas Law Office, Atty.Jonathan Villegas, Arago Petro, Mamac Surveying and Engr. Tabarno Jr. Tournament arbiter was Fiel Percival and was organized by FA Felix Poloyapoy Jr., NA Armecito Lumbab and Rowena Borata Padro.
