THE 2000 Core Pacific handed Kogi-Q-Riway 37 its first loss of the tournament, 72–57, in Division B of the 22nd SHAABAA Basketball Tournament Powered by Common Ground last weekend at the Magis Eagles Arena in Canduman, Mandaue City.
Core Pacific took complete control of the game with a strong second half that saw the team outscore Kogi-Q, 42–29.
Marvin Roma led Batch 2000 with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals while Joevince Canizares tallied 12 points and 10 boards to go with four steals and four blocked shots.
Both teams are now tied for second place in the standings at 8–1 (win-loss), slightly behind the unbeaten 2001 Dynacast, which is at 9–0, after beating the 2002 San Remegio Beach Club, 75–62.
Carlo Villarica exploded for 22 points, 14 rebounds and four steals in Dynacast’s dominant performance that dropped San Remegio to 5–4.
In the other Division B game, the 1999 AutoLAB vanquished the 1996 White Gold Club, 57–53.
Jeremy Huang played a key role for AutoLAB as he tallied 22 points and 10 boards to help them notch their fourth win in nine games and tie their victims in the standings.
