Former PBA cager Yap tows USJ-R to victory

THE ROGER Yap-led University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) prevailed over the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma, 85-72, in the 45-under division of the Cebu Amateur Athletic Association Basketball Alumni tournament last Sunday at the USC gym.

Yap, a prolific guard during his time in the PBA, led a second half uprising by the Jaguars to overcome a five-point halftime deficit and author the huge win.

Yap finished with 17 points while Popoy Sumampan led the squad with 18. Rannie Abo pumped in 16.

In the 46-above division, the Cebu Central College/University of Cebu slipped past the Cebu Institute of Technology-University, 68-65.

Julius Gastador and Aldrin Barola charted 16 markers to help push CCC/UC to the winner’s circle.

Felix Duhig, who once scored a whopping 112 points on 30 three-pointers back in 1990, led the way for CIT-U with 18.
