Consolacion LGU joins anti-drugs fight

By: Miguel Ermac October 11,2017 - 10:12 PM

Around a thousand people including 200 drug surrenderers gathered on Wednesday morning to express support for the anti-drugs initiative of the municipality of Consolacion.

Dubbed as the “Love for Life: walk against drugs,” the gathering held at the covered court of the Consolacion National High School was organized to make town residents realize that drug addiction is not a solution to their problems, said Mayor Teresa Alegado.

“The focus of our advocacy is to inject to the knowledge of all the Consolacionanons the importance of life and to let them realize that drugs are not the remedy for life’s problems, but drugs is a destruction to a well-being of a person and to his or her family,” Alegado said.

Alegado said the municipal government is also working with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Health (DOH) to identify interventions for those who are engaged in illegal drug use.

Meanwhile, police in Mandaue City arrested a member of the Sadaya drug group on Tuesday.

Arnold Jabas was collared in his residence in Zone 1, Sitio Bombil in Barangay Canduman for possession of three small packs of shabu.

Sr. Insp. Raymondo Enriquez, chief of the Canduman Police Station, said Jabas was a drug runner for the Sadaya group who would also sell drugs in his home.

Jabas denied police claims that he was arrested in a buy-bust operation in an interview with ABS-CBN in his detention cell. He said that police came to his home and collared him.
