THE 2009 Crossfit Subtero-Primo Builders moved closer to a finals berth after they crushed the 2005 Bizol, 81-40, in Game 1 of the best-of-three semifinals in Division C of the SHAABAA Basketball Tournament last Sunday at the Magis Eagles Arena.

Joseph Roma was the team’s high-point man with 11, but five others scored between nine and eight points apiece, underscoring the team’s balance and depth.

Crossfit Subtero-Primo Builders held Bizol to a mere 15 points in the middle periods to run away with the easy win.

In the other Division C semis, the 2008 Cottonseed upset the 2015 People’s General, 59-53.

Cottonseed leaned on a hot start in the first half that put them up, 39-27, before holding off a comeback attempt by People’s General.

Emil Gabuya led the way for Batch 2008 with 18 points and four steals while Albert Villegas notched 14 markers.

Cottonseed’s terrific defense also held People’s General ace Anton Chua to just 13 points. The former Magis Eagle also turned the ball over six times.
