FRANK Duke Dinsay returned from an injury layoff and scored a double-double of 20 points and 20 rebounds which essentially went for naught as the hard-luck Gilas Defenders still lost to the hard-fighting Rebels, 97-93 last Saturday in the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Basketball League.
Gilas led by as much as 15 points early in the game until Din Padoga and birthday boy Dutch Nollora waxed hot at endgame to steal the win. Nollora and Padoga combined for 40 points for the winning Rebels. Gilas Defenders had a chance to send the game into overtime but missed all of their last four attempts.
Resti Arnaiz added 16 points and seven assists for the Gilas Defenders.
Meanwhile, rookie Mat Eric Medalle scored 20 points as the fourth-ranked Spartans crushed the Pañeros, 86-76. Bary Busi and Ronald Luib paced the losers with 19 and 14 points, respectively.
The Cavaliers on the other hand, got their second win with a hard-earned, 88-80 victory over the Dissenters and Bad Boys.
Rhyan John Pagaran and Dakz Montealegre led the Cavaliers with 24 points each while Hope Vilaflor and Vincent Roel Tabuñag added 10 apiece.
Edward Bauzon and Ivan Gamallo paced the Dissenters and Bad Boys with 20 points each.
Meanwhile, new team YLAC captured its first win of the season by beating the Idols via forfeit.
In Saturday’s quarterfinal round, the top four teams will have a twice-to-beat advantage versus the bottom four.
