Netizens were enthusiastic over news on the commercial availability of natural gas and oil at the Alegria Oil Field in southern Cebu despite concerns from environmentalists.
Dennis Arceo wrote, “Maong dili mo asinso ang pinas kay daghang kontra! Datu na unta ta dugay ug walay kontra sa plano sa gobyerno” (That’s why Philippines won’t be successful because many of us complain. This country might be wealthy if we are not against the government.)

Another netizen named Brian Tabal Arejola emphasized, “No, it will not damage the environment if the oil company will only have a strict compliance to HSSE. I am working in a company with lots of contract package in an oil & gas company and I have observed their onshore & offshore operation have so many birds and fish. Para ganing bird and fish sanctuary. Maybe this Environmentalist need to visit this plants operation.”
