Maine Mendoza, Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo and Paolo Ballesteros with people from the barangay in one episode of Eat Bulaga’s segment, “Juan for All, All for Juan”
PUTTING her social media influence to good use, Phenomenal Star Maine Mendoza has launched her latest project, “Humans of Barangay,” a Facebook blog inspired by Brandon Stanton’s Humans of New York.
To be featured are everyday people she interacts with in noontime show Eat Bulaga’s segment, “Juan for All, All for Juan” and their insights about different topics.
“My goal is to inspire more people through the stories of others. Hoping that this project will inspire us to be a better person in one way or another,” said the 23-year-old Dubsmash Queen in her post last Monday.
She said every person has a story to tell that has lessons, motivation, and inspiration.
Since she is part of Eat Bulaga’s Juan For All, All for Juan segment which allows to go to different barangays all over the country, the project will serve as her avenue to collect stories of different people from all walks of life.
For her first entry, Mendoza shared four stories, including that of her segment co-hosts, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, and Paolo Ballesteros.
Bayola’s “story” was about the joys and difficulties encountered by comedians.
“Best thing bilang komedyante ay ‘yung saya, kumbaga nakakapagpasaya ka ng tao. Minsan, kahit seryoso ka na, hindi ka pa din sineryoso ng mga tao…kasi nga komedyante ka,” the post read.
Ballesteros’ story centered on one’s sexual orientation.
“Ang paglaladlad personal choice yan, hindi yun maididikta ng kahit sino, lalo na ng society na ginagalawan mo. Just take your time, kahit mga 100 years pa yan, ikaw ang bahala. Kasi ikaw ang magbubukas ng sarili mong, ‘closet,’ hindi ibang tao,” the post reads.
The third story was about Manalo encouraging the youth to think of their future and realize their dreams.
“Huwag maging mapusok ang kabataan. Pag-isipan lahat ng bagay lalo na sa mga desisyon sa buhay. Huwag sugod ng sugod! Kasi may mga desisyon tayong akala natin ay tama, pero sa dulo lang natin malalaman na mali pala,” part of the post reads.
The last photo was about two members of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) who experienced being humiliated because of their sexual preferrence.
“Bata pa lang ganito na kami pero hanggang ngayon may mga nangungutya pa din. ‘Salot o bakla’ o kaya ‘madami na nga kami, dadagdag pa kayo’ iba’t iba pang salita ang binabato ng kapwa namin para i-down kami,” the post reads.
The post encouraged everyone to respect the members of the LGBT community.
As of 6 p.m yesterday, the page Mendoza launched already had more than 19,000 followers.
