OF the 178 people arrested for the election gun ban violations in Central Visayas, 65 of them were from Cebu province.
That is according to the data from the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) which implemented the election gun ban starting April 14 to May 21.
The gun ban prohibits the on bearing, carrying and transporting of firearms and other deadly weapons and the “availment” or engagement of the services of security personnel or bodyguards during the implementation period.
Police also confiscated at least 206 firearms during that period.
Those arrested were either caught during buy-bust operations, at checkpoints among other anti-crime operations of the police.
Police arrested 13 persons at checkpoints during that period.
PRO-7 Information Officer Reyman Tolentin said that despite the lifting of the gun ban, police would still continue to conduct random checkpoints in the region.
