Dragons give Generals rude welcome in Elite Classic division
The Supportsave Dragons did not take lightly the entry of the QBE Generals to the Elite Classic division as they handed the latter a 74-68 loss in the Tanduay Athletics E-Leagues for Basketball last weekend at the City Sports Club-Cebu basketball court.
The Generals were the champions of the Evo League class last year, a feat that earned them a spot with the big boys this season. And the Dragons gave them a rude welcome in the third period, outscoring the Generals, 22-8, to open up a 50-34 lead with only one period left to play.
Niño Belanded had a sensational start to the season as he piled up 25 points, eight rebounds and nine assists while Janile Bantillan added 17 points. Justine Mier also had a solid all-around outing with 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Meanwhile, the Wipro Tigers beat the Telstra Boomerangs, 69-64.
Brian Deodoro played a stellar ballgame, piling up 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Randolf Espinosa and Aaron Suson also churned out 15 and 11, respectively.
