THE CEBU City Sharks-Casino Ethyl Alcohol gun for their very first win in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup but must do so against some familiar faces when they take on the Basilan Steel tonight at the Strike Gymnasium in Bacoor, Cavite.
Sharing the bottom with identical 0-2 win-loss records, one team will enter the win column tonight. The Sharks want to be that team especially after coming off a crushing 73-81 loss to the Parañaque Patriots, a game wherein Cebu City held a 15-point lead in the first half.
The Steel will be no pushovers as they are bannered by a who’s who of players who have made their name on the basketball courts of Cebu, namely former M. Lhuillier Cebu Niños studs Jojo Tangkay, Mark Ababon, Hafer Mondragon, Criz Dumapig and Ferdinand Lusdoc.
Meanwhile, former Cesafi three-point champion, Mar Villahermosa, exploded for 29 points to lead the Caloocan Supremos past the Rizal Crusaders, 92-80.
The former University of San Jose-Recoletos guard shot 11-of-18 from the field and also played well on the other end of the floor, racking up five steals.
Former Southwestern University-Phinma guard Joseph Nalos also flirted with a triple-double with six points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
