A man was arrested for illegally excavating sand in Carmen town, northern Cebu on Wednesday (September 12).
The suspect was identified as Melchor Castro, 46, a resident of Danao City, Cebu.
Castro was caught placing in his pick-up truck 15 sacks of minerals worth P450 each in Barangay Triumfo of the same town at past 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Chief Inspector Ramil Morpos of Carmen police station explained that the illegal excavation of sand is a violation of the Philippine Mining Act of 1995.
Castro is temporarily detained at Carmen Police Station pending the filing of charges against him.
