Talisay City will begin the first step in its journey of hoping to become one of the major sports contenders in the province of Cebu as it starts the sports development program for its young athletes through the Talisay City Sports Commission and Performing Arts’ Summer Workshop 2014.
The workshop, to be spearheaded by the city’s Sports Commission office under Jeannette Villagonzalo and Talisay City’s Administrator John Yre de los Reyes, will be composed of summer clinics in 12 sporting events and three performing arts.
In an earlier interview with Cebu Daily News, Talisay City Mayor Johnny V. de los Reyes said they have already created a series of sports events and sports development programs for this year involving several sporting disciplines.
The mayor, also known as JVR, said that he personally told his son, John Yre, to closely work with the city’s sports commission office for the implementation of the said programs.
Among those included in the summer clinic are volleyball, basketball, badminton, lawn tennis, table tennis, softball, baseball, taekwondo, karatedo, football, swimming and dancesports.
The performing arts to be offered are lessons in guitar, modern dance and Hawaiian dance.
Aside from this, John Yre also said they are also planning to hold a Talisay All-Star Game in basketball.
The first batch for the summer workshop in all the sporting events except for swimming will be from April 21 to May 2 followed by the second batch scheduled on May 5 to 16. The final batch will be on May 19 to 30. Swimming, which will be held at the Aqua Cainta in Pooc, will be conducted on May 12 to 23.
The first batch for the performing arts starts on April 21 to May 9 and the second batch from May 12 to 30.
Among the events to be held at the Talisay City Sports Complex are the volleyball, basketball and badminton, while those that will be held at the Talisay City Multi-Purpose Gym are table tennis, taekwondo and karatedo.
Lawn tennis will be at the Talisay City Tennis Court, while softball and baseball will be staged at the Talisay City Central School.
The three performing arts workshop will be at the Talisay City Hall.
