Visiting squads shine in Thirsty Football Cup
Visiting teams didn’t mind playing away from home as they bagged titles in different divisions in the 11th Thirsty Football Cup on Saturday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Negros Occidental teams San Carlos City Football Club and Minuluan FC together with Tubigon FC of Bohol won titles after beating their respective finals opponents.
San Carlos City lived up to its lofty billing as its girls under-15 squad trounced Davao City’s Lady Knights FC in a shootout to clinch the title in the division. Scores were not given by the organizers.
Isabelle Carmona was named MVP in the U15 division.
Tubigon FC routed University of San Carlos (USC) Team B to snatch the title in the boys’ under-20 division in a shootout, 6-5.
Mark Malabosa was named the U20 division’s MVP.
Meanwhile, Minuluan FC defeated local favorite Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in the girls under-18 division via shootout, 5-4.
Ivy Lopez was named the U18 MVP.
Other championship winners were the Lahug Elementary School (mixed U9), which blanked Les Lions FC, 1-0, KN Ferraren (38-above) which beat Share-share FC, 2-1, USC-White FC (girls U20), which won over USC-Green FC, and Bright Academy (mixed U7), which upended Don Bosco Team B last Friday.
MVPs in the other divisions are Philippine youth team member Arancha Trebol (U20), John Daniel Vetinol (mixed U9), Nilo Ferraren (38-above) and Marco Lancelot Colina (mixed U7).
The premier men’s open, ladies open and other divisions finals games will be played Sunday at the same venue.
