MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — A man was wounded after engaging in a shootout with police during a drug operation at the Mandaue City reclamation area shortly before 1 a.m. today, Tuesday, October 29, 2019.

The suspect was identified as Angelito Parojinog, 34,  of Barangay Luz, Cebu City, who sustained a gunshot wound in his left upper leg and was immediately brought to hospital by the police for treatment.

According to Police Master Sergeant Jefferson Jacalan, who led a team from the Mandaue City Police Office’s City Intelligence Branch (CIB) during the buy-bust operation, the suspect quickly took out his firearm and attempted to fire shots at the police when he sensed he was transacting with an undercover cop. But his firearm did not fire even if he squeezed the trigger three times,  allowing the policemen time to retaliate, hitting the suspect in the leg.

Parojinog tried to flee on board his motorcycle but the vehicle crashed, and that was when he was arrested, said Jacalan.

Police recovered from him a .38 revolver with three  live ammunition, 34 small packets of suspected shabu estimated to have a street value of P15,000.

Meanwhile, the elements of Opao Police Station (Station 5) in Mandaue led by Police Major Aldrin Villacampa also nabbed another drug suspect, identified as Julius Villaginzalo, 40, a resident of Villagonzalo, Cebu City, during a buy-bust operation at 5 p.m. on October 28 at Purok Tambis Barangay Umapad, Mandaue city.

Siezed from Villagonzalo were packets of suspected shabu worth P20,000 and a .38 revolver with three live ammunition.

According to the suspect, he has been frequenting his girlfriend’s house where he was arrested but denied he was into selling drugs and was in possession of a firearm.

In another drug operation, the elements of the Centro Police Station in Mandaue City led by Police Major Ramil Morpos arrested a 16-year old boy for selling illegal drugs at Barangay Umapad past 10 p.m. of October 28.  The boy was caught with six small packets of suspected shabu worth P1,800./elb
