Davide orders suspension of Dumanjug mayor

By: Peter L. Romanillos April 11,2014 - 04:19 PM

Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III affirmed Friday the recommendation of the Provincial Board (PB) to mete 60-day preventive suspension of Dumanjug Mayor Nelson Garcia.

Mayor Garcia is facing usurpation authority charges filed by Vice Mayor Efren Guntrano Gica before the PB. The PB Committee on Complaints and Investigation headed by Arleigh Sitoy found it necessary for Garcia to be meted preventive suspension as it hears Gica’s complaints over the appointment of Emmlylou Cabonilas as Sangguniang Panglungsod (SB) secretary.

Gica argues that the power to appoint personnel in the local legislature is exclusive on him as the presiding officer of the SB.

The PB sustained the recommendation of Sitoy to ask the governor to order the 60-day preventive suspension of Garcia last March 24.

Mayor Garcia, brother of 3rd disrict representative and former governor Gwen Garcia and a member of the One Cebu party, filed a motion for reconsideration before the PB, but it was thrown out last Monday.
