MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — The Lapu-Lapu City government is considering the possibility of allocating an area at the city’s public cemetery for use as a Muslim cemetery.

Mayor Junard Chan said the idea was raised in a meeting which he had with Onasis Omar Balt, Regional Director of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, and Abdul Pabilar, head of the city’s Muslim Affairs Office, on Monday morning, January 25.

“Usa sa among nahisgutan kay ang paggahin og luna para kanila sa atong Public Cemetery,’ Chan said.

(Among those that we discussed was a plan to identify a lot for their use at the public cemetery.)

Chan said that through the Muslim Affairs Office his administration will now be able to extend its assistance to their community like what he has also done for the other religious groups in their city.

“Gusto ko ang atong syudad mamahimong usa ka paraiso kung diin magsinabtanay ug magkahiusa ang tanan para ang matag Oponganon adunay malambuon ug malinawon nga pagpamuyo,” Chan said.

(I wanted to turn our city into a paradise where there is understanding and unity among its people so that each and every Oponganon will be able to enjoy prosperity and live in peace.)
