Lapu-Lapu City logs 90 new COVID-19 recoveries

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines – A total of 90 Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients from Lapu-Lapu City have fully recovered from the virus today, February 9, 2021.

This was confirmed by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan on his Facebook post, wherein he visited them at the Lapu-Lapu City College (LCC), the city’s isolation facility, this afternoon.

“Isip amahan sa dakbayan, malipayon nakong ipahibawo nga adunay dugang 90 ka Covid warriors sa atong dakbayan karong adlawa human sila nagmadaugon batok sa makalilisang nga coronavirus disease,” Chan’s post reads.

Chan also urged those who recovered from the virus to help the city in educating the public, especially in complying with the health and safety protocols, such as the wearing of a face mask, the observance of social distancing, and washing the hands regularly using soaps, or sanitizing using an alcohol or hand sanitizers.

The mayor is also encouraging Oponganons to continue their prayers to God Almighty that they will be victorious in their battle against the virus.

Meanwhile, Nagiel Bañacia, head of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) in Lapu-Lapu City, said that they already started to utilize the Hoops Dome in Barangay Gun-ob, as a Temporary Holding Area for COVID-19 asymptomatic patients.

He said that as of the moment, more than 20 patients were already placed in the facility, while they will extract around 15 COVID-19 positives from their homes today so that they can be brought to Hoops Dome.

“Duna sa’y uban nga wala na moadto sa Hoops Dome. Ang mga pasyente nga maka-afford, nagpa-admit sa hospital. Pero asymptomatic sila,” Bañacia said.

Grace Carungay, the head of the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, was also glad, since the city only recorded 9 new active cases of the virus yesterday, February 8.

Carungay said that she is hoping that the city will continue to log only a single-digit number of cases of COVID-19.

“Nalipay mi nga for the past weeks, tag duha ka digit, nya gabie migawas, siyam lang. Hopefully mao nalang gyud ni ang data nga atong makuha. Ang mga cases nato tag usa ka digit nalang unta,” Carungay said.

As of February 8, the city already has 382 active cases of the virus./rcg
