Van driver killed in Mandaue vehicular accident

Cebu City, Philippines—A van-for-hire driver died when the van he was driving crashed into a passenger bus along an intersection at the North Reclamation Area in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City early Thursday morning, February 18, 2021.

Traffic investigators identified the driver of the van as Cristoper Dono, 37, who is from sitio Tacan in Barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City.

CCTV footage from the Mandaue City Command Center shows that the van, which was traversing Ouano Avenue, hit the bus that was coming out of E.O. Perez Street. The accident happened at the intersection of both streets while traffic lights weren’t still operating since it was still 4:58 a.m. Traffic lights in the area start operating at 5 am.

The driver of the bus is detained as of this posting.

Traffic and medical personnel from the city were immediately in the scene and were able to bring the driver of the van to a nearby hospital but he didn’t make it alive.
