Surban tops second leg of Danao MTB race
CEBU CITY Philippines—Niño Surban flexed his might in the second leg of the “Race Against Drugs & Bike To Stay Healthy Against Covid” held last February 28, 2021 in Danao City, northern Cebu.
Surban, a silver medalist in mountain bike in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, dominated the elite category with a time of 43 minutes.
He beat Jessiedel Arnado (43:15) and Rande Carbonera (47:04), who claimed second and third places, respectively.
He now has 20 points accumulated after two legs. Arnado has 18 points, while Carbonera is in sixth place with eight points as he did not compete in the first leg in January.
The cycling and mountain bike tournament was organized by the Danao City Sports Commission cycling team. The event, which attracted 350 participants, implemented strict health and safety protocols. It featured eight categories.
Meanwhile, in the women’s division, Shagne Yaoyao emerged as the fastest rider with a time of 42:48, beating the second placer Pamela Jane Ruiz (52:43) and Lucille Ruiz (56:30), who rounded off the top three riders.
In the 50-59 years old category, the top three riders were Nilo Barbelosa (31:31), Wilfredo Gitaruelas (34:05), and Cecilio Calvo (34:13).
The top three riders in the masters (35-above) were Jessie Sanchez (34:49),Jhep-poy Arcenal Yuson (37:32), and Jun Duron (37:54).
Leo Manulat (38:22), Alvin Maglasang (39:30), and Raymundo Capoy (48:02) completed the top three in the 60-above category.
The under-23 men’s top three riders were Romeo Fabian (50:10), Rovic Khalid Cartagena (50:19), and Jay Jet Parilla (51:00).
The winning riders in the 13 to 16 years old category were Khalil Sanchez (34:38), Guian Carl Perez (34:57), and Elijah Zamora (35:02).
The best performing riders in the juniors’ 17-18 were Reneer Hinampas (35:00), Franz Leonard Capuyan (35:23), Kibby James Molinas (35:38).
