Strict implementation of health protocols cited for Lapu’s decreasing COVID-19 infections
LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has attributed the decreasing number of newly reported cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the city to its intensified implementation of the health and safety protocols, especially the wearing of a face mask.
Based on their monitoring in the past seven days, their daily reported cases of the virus have continuously declined.
From March 17 – 19, 2021, the city’s daily reported cases of COVID-19 were pinned at more than 60 cases per day.
But on March 20, the city has only logged 37 new cases of the virus, and from March 21–23, their daily reported cases have even dropped to just over 20 cases per day.
The report also shows that yesterday, March 23, the city has only reported 24 new cases of the virus.
“This a good sign. Sauna mo-range ug 60 ang kaso nga atong matala per day, karon 20 plus nalang,” Chan said.
Chan believes that this is the result of their intensified campaign for the compliance of the health and safety protocols, and the apprehension of violators.
Aside from this, Chan said that starting tomorrow, March 25, they will implement the mandatory wearing of face shield to identified places, such as malls, banks, public markets, and public transport.
They will also prioritize in their campaign the barangays with the most number of COVID-19 cases.
Currently, the city’s active COVID-19 cases have already reached 832. /rcg
