Student falls off double decker, dies

A 19-YEAR-OLD college student died after he fell from the upper deck of a dormitory bunk bed in barangay Looc, Mandaue City.

Police are still investigating the circumstances behind the death of John Vincent Nismal, who hails from Miag-ao, Iloilo and a sophomore Marine Transportation student at the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu-Mandaue campus.

Police said victim had no external injuries.

According to the victim’s dorm mate, he was awakened at around 3 a.m. as Nismal was complaining of stomach pain.

Nismal tried to get down from his bunk, but he allegedly slipped. The upper deck was about four-feet from the ground.

The victim fell unconscious. Paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation took the victim to the Dr. Ignacio Cortes Hospital in barangay Centro where he was declared dead.

Police said the body will be subjected to a medico-legal examination to determine the exact cause of death.
