Cebu City officials want to meet with their counterparts in Mandaue City to “iron things out” regarding the issues surrounding the Cebu City slaughterhouse in barangay Subangdaku.
Cebu City Legal Officer Jerone Castillo announced this after he met with City Abattoir operations chief Dr. Pilar Romero, City Health Officer Dr. Daisy Villa, City Administrator Lucelle Mercado and Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CCENRO) Randy Navarro.
“It was decided to have a dialogue first. We need to really talk things out. It’s better for two LGUs to iron this out in a conference. That’s the best way to resolve these issues,” Castillo told reporters.
He said they hope to meet Mandaue City Administrator James Abadia and City Legal Officer Giovanni Tianero tomorrow, Wednesday.
Castillo said that they may have overlooked some things in the operations of the slaughterhouse.
“It is admitted that there are problems… It was damaged by the earthquake last year and there are plans for renovation. But this shouldn’t be made an excuse. We have to move faster and restore what has been destroyed,” he said.
The Mandaue City Legal Office in a letter had enumerated several violations by the slaughterhouse operation.
The Cebu City Legal Office was alarmed with the “serious allegations.”
They cited that the title of the lot and the slaughterhouse are named under the Cebu City Government, but Castillo clarified that they won’t insist on anything yet.
