Two houses were destroyed and three houses were damaged by a fire that hit Purok 7, barangay Cubacub, Mandaue City at 5:08 pm last Tuesday.

SFO1 Cipriano Codilla, Mandaue City Fire Station investigator, said the fire was caused by a seven-year-old child who left the rice pot unattended.

Fire trucks from barangay Talamban in Cebu City and the towns of Consolacion and Lilo-an towns assisted the Mandaue City Fire Station in putting out the fire.

No one was hurt while damages were pegged at P250,000. About 35 persons were temporarily housed at the barangay Cubacub Hall.

In barangay Labangon, Cebu City a man faces arson charges after he tried to set a woman’s house on fire.

Feliciana Lapinid said she was doing her laundry outside her house when Abel Blaza‚ a former lessee, barged into her house.

SF03 Roylin Maratas‚ chief investigator of the Cebu City Fire Station, said Lapinid kept talking to Blaza who didn’t reply and instead poured something from a plastic gallon he brought before leaving.

Lapinid said she noticed a fire inside her house. Her neighbor Ashley Formentera called for assistance.

Maratas said Blaza was angry at Lapinid after learning that she sold his appliances.

Blaza failed to settle his debt to Lapinid. Damages were pegged at P1,000.

Blaza was treated for hand wounds at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).
