Clear skies this weekend, but Pagasa watches LPA

By: Fe Marie Dumaboc January 10,2015 - 02:11 AM

This weekend will have clear weather with clouds and windy days, which favor the Sinulog sa Kabataan student parades in Cebu City.

By Wednesday, a Low Pressure Area is expected to enter the Philippines, with a possibility of developing into a tropical depression.

If that happens, the first storm of the year will be named “Amang”.

A 10-day forecast by Oscar Tabada, Pag-asa Visayas director, showed that Monday and Tuesday next week will experience  light rain and strong wind.

Weathermen are closely watching Wednesday’s weather disturbance, which falls on the eve of Pope Francis’ arrival in the Philippines.

Tabada urged those who want to see the Pope in Leyte to sail as early as Wednesday, Jan. 14 ,to avoid possible strong wind and rough seas which may cause the cancellation of boat trips.

Eastern Visayas will be rainy starting Wednesday until Saturday if the LPA enters the country.

Tabada’s concern was the weather outlook on Saturday, January 17,  when the Sto. Niño fluvial procession and solemn foot procession will draw thousands of devotees outdoors in Cebu City.

On that day, Pope Francis is also scheduled to visit Tacloban city and Palo in Leyte.

There may be moderate to heavy rain because of the approaching low pressure area, he said.

On Sunday, January 18,  light rain will fall in the early morning.

But by the time the Sinulog grand parade starts at 9 a.m., “we will have good weather. Not so sunny but not very rainy either,”said Tabada.

The public was advised to keep posted on daily weather reports of Pagasa.
