Gigi says her brother needs to stay in rehab center longer

By: Victor Anthony V. Silva February 13,2015 - 04:22 PM

CEBU Provincial Board (PB) Member Grecilda “Gigi” Sanchez is not convinced that her brother finished his stint in a government-run drug rehabilitation center.

Sanchez said she received reports from the Department of Health’s (DOH) New Horizon Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Argao town that her brother Leogreco “Greco” didn’t even submit to the facility’s program since day one.

“The center confirmed that he did not submit to the program ever since. These centers exist to help their patients. He should have cooperated,” she told Cebu Daily News.

Greco, through his lawyer Rameses Villagonzalo, asked the Regional Trial Court Branch 13 in Cebu City to release him from the center.

Villagonzalo said Greco spent 16 months in the center which would have been enough time to make him “sober and rehabilitated.”

Escaped

But Sanchez insisted that Greco’s stubbornness inside the facility shows otherwise.

The PB member said a court order was released in October last year extending Greco’s stay in the center “until such time that he submits himself to the facility’s rehabilitation program.”

Sanchez said Greco had been admitted 18 times in the past and had escaped at least three times.

Sanchez asked the court to commit Greco to a drug rehabilitation center back in November 2013.

She told the court that Greco had been harassing their mother and family members for money to support his drug habit.

Allegations

Despite this, the board member is still hopeful that her brother recovers.

Namatay na lang ang among mga ginikanan, wala lang gihapon siya ma-sober (Our parents have died and he’s still not sober),” Sanchez said. Both are children of the late vice governor Gregorio Sanchez.

Sanchez denied her brother’s allegations that she wants to keep him in the center in order to prevent him from assuming his position as vice president of the family’s Lacto Bacillus Pafi Techno Resources Corp.

“How can you assume a decent position, run a company as vice president when you’ve been rehabilitated 18 times?” she said.

The PB member said the family wants to see Greco fully rehabilitated and sober.
