The cracks and holes in some parts of the rubberized track oval of the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) is finally being repaired by the Hong Kong-based Sierra Universal Corporation.
The track oval, which was built in 1994 for the hosting of the Palarong Pambansa, underwent its first major renovation last 2012 worth P26 million.
Sierra Universal was tasked to replace the old rubberized track that had lasted for 16 years.
But five years after the rehabilitation, deterioration was evident with the appearance of cracks, then holes in some parts of the track oval.
Since it is under a five-year warranty, Sierra Universal brought in a Malaysian expert to lead the fixing of the oval. Work started last Saturday and is expected to be completed by the week’s end.
CCSC manager Ricky Ballesteros said the repairs should have started earlier but they had to postpone it because of a conflict of schedules.
Ballesteros said the hordes of runners, athletes and football players using not just the oval, but also the field, is one reason why the track gets damaged.
“I just want to remind the runners, athletes and football players that they should also take care of the oval,” Ballesteros said.
