USJ-R Damazo Hoops Cup: Tangkay tows Batch 1997 to 23-point win against Batch 2004
CEBU CITY, Philippines— Batch 1997 clinched their second win in five games in Division 1 of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) High School Alumni-Damazo Basketball Cup Season 13 on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the USJ-R Basak Campus gymnasium.
This as Batch 1997 clobbered Batch 2004, 83-60, on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

Tangkay’s double-double
Veteran pro cager Jojo Tangkay topscored for Batch 1997 with his 19-point double-double outing. He also grabbed 11 rebounds, one assist, and steal as Batch 1997 climbed to the fourth spot in Division 1’s team standings with a 2-3 (win-loss) record.
Hentjie Cabo also had a double-double game 17 points with 14 rebounds for Batch 1997, while Jerry Dacalos added 10 points, and Mark Saramosing with eight points.
Alvin Lariosa spoiled his 21-point outing for Batch 2004 so as Rebe Agravante’s 12 points as their team tied their win-loss standings with Batch 1997, 2-3.

Joy Olofernes double-double
In the other game, Batch 1995 routed Batch 1996, 104-90, with Joy Olofernes erupting for a 25-point double-double game.
Olofernes added 11 boards with three assists, and one steal, while teammate Rocky Bacalso scored 20 points. Jose Po and Lyle Vasquez chipped in 16 and 15 points, respectively, as Batch 1995 remained the top team in Division 1 with an unbeaten 5-0 record.
John Paul Alcaraz scored 32 points and grabbed 10 boards, but weren’t enough to give Batch 1996 the dub. The defeat put Batch 1996 No. 3 in Division 1’s standings with a 4-3 (win-loss) card.
Serge Quirante added 16 points, while Oscar Quiachon had 14 markers. University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters head coach Joever Samonte chipped in 10 points in Batch 1996’s losing efforts.
