Pregnant woman killed after getting run over by truck in Danao, Cebu
CEBU CITY, Philippines – A 26-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn baby were killed after a wing van hit them while crossing the road in Barangay Looc, Danao City late Thursday evening, November 30, 2023.
The victim was identified as 26-year-old Gracel Castro Jayson, single and a resident of Lantaw, Barangay Looc.
Castro was reportedly four months pregnant with a baby boy.
A police report showed that the traffic management office received a radio call from the Disaster Office at around 11:40 p.m. on Thursday about an alleged road accident.
Immediately after, responding personnel headed along the national road where the incident took place.
According to the initial investigation, Jayson was on her way home from work in Lapu-Lapu City when she got hit.
The victim was allegedly crossing the road when she was hit by the wingvan truck.
The impact caused the victim to fall off into the pavement of the road and was run over by the vehicle.
After this, the driver of the wing van truck allegedly sped off northbound.

Jayson sustained severe injuries in multiple parts of her body and was immediately brought to the Cebu Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.
The attending physician, however, declared Jayson and her unborn baby dead on arrival at the hospital.
The alleged suspect was identified as 43-year-old Ruel Guya Obana, a resident of Barangay Lumay Alang-alang Leyte.
Obana was traveling coming from the southern part of Cebu heading towards the north bound direction, stated the report.
After Obana allegedly fled away, he was intercepted by authorities at the port in Carmen, Cebu.

His vehicle reportedly incurred damages of undetermined amount due to the incident.
The suspect was brought to the Danao City Police Station where he is detained pending for the filing of charges.
The report revealed that charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide with damage to property will likely be filed against Obana.
