Ports agency urged to approve fish port agreement

A win-win solution should be reached by the Talisay City government and the Cebu Ports Authority (CPA) on their impasse over an agreement to develop the Talisay City fish port.

“We also need to think of the brighter side here. The development of the port can boost the economy of the city,” Talisay City Mayor Johnny V. delos Reyes said during yesterday’s 888 News Forum.

An agreement signed by Talisay City Hall with Asia Marine Transport Corp., (AMTC) authorized the company to develop the fish port under a 25-year lease.

AMTC initially paid P9.6 million for the 25-year agreement. The company will invest P560 million for the development and extension of the roll-on/roll-off port as a major gateway to Cebu.

The Talisay port is envisioned as a major logistics hub for activities from Manila and Batangas to the Visayas and Mindanao. The CPA has yet to approve the agreement.  Talisay City Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante said Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya will study the agreement.
