Tagum City— The Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) is in danger of suffering one of its worst finishes in the history of Palarong Pambansa.

In the official partial tally as of 11 a.m., Cviraa ranked sixth in the medal tally with 10 golds, 11 silvers and 18 bronzes.

Perennial champion National Capital Region (NCR) is comfortably ahead with 54 golds, 44 silvers and 37 bronzes. At second was Region 4-A with a 34-28-30 (g-s-b) tally.

Taking the third spot was Region 6 with a 28-32-28 harvest. At fourth was the Cordillera Administrative Region at 16-16-9 followed by Region 10 at 15-8-18.

Region 7’s worst finish in the annual multi-sporting event is seventh. It was crowned overall champions in 1994 when the competition was hosted by Cebu City. After that championship run, Cviraa became a consistent fourth place finisher until it finished third in the 2013 Palaro held in Dumaguete City.

In last year Palaro held in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Cviraa ranked fourth once again.

Cviraa could improve its ranking as it will be playing in several championship games later today.

Early in the day, Cviraa’s  bid of hiking its record suffered a major blow after the secondary boys basketball team lost to Region 3 in their semifinal match, 61-71.
