Tiu faces probe over child abuse
THE City Investigation and Detection Management Branch (CIDMB) has recommended a formal investigation against Fuente Police Station Chief Wildemar Tiu for grave misconduct and child abuse.
Tiu is in the hot seat over allegations that he shaved the heads of street children, said Chief Inspector Aileen Recla in her recommendation to the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Branch (RIDMB).
Tiu was also accused of mauling 11-year-old street child Chastity Mirabiles.
Chastity collapsed and died several hours after she was released from detention at Fuente police station.
Some street children have testified that Tiu shaved their heads against their will while they were being detained at the Fuente police station.
Shaving the heads of children against their will, if proven true, is a violation of Republic Act 7610 or the law protecting women and children.
Supt. Henry Biñas, RIDMB deputy chief, said they still have to evaluate the recommendation.
If they find enough basis, they may hold summary proceedings to determine Tiu’s liability, if any.
The maximum penalty for grave misconduct is dismissal from service, said Biñas.
Tiu is still in the US taking a vacation with his family.
Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella has invited stakeholders to the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council meeting to act on issues involving street children.
