Ex-Negros Oriental governor Pryde Teves arrested, released on bail

CEBU CITY, Philippines – The former governor of Negros Oriental, Pryde Henry Teves, was arrested on Thursday, June 20, 2024, for violating the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression law.

A trial court here issued a warrant against Teves, the brother of the embattled ex-lawmaker Arnolfo ‘Arnie’ Teves Jr. of the province’s third district, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Negros Oriental (CIDG-Negros Oriental) said.

But the younger Teves was able to post bail for his temporary freedom.

Police Major Nazarino Emia of CIDG-Negros Oriental said they received the warrang against the younger Teves from Branch 74 of the Cebu City Trial Court last Wednesday, June 19.

It was signed by Presiding Judge Marlon Moneva on May 13, 2024, and recommended a bail of P600,000.

In turn, they conducted a manhunt against the former governor who eventually showed up and surrendered before the CIDG-Negros Oriental’s office the following day, Thursday.

“Ganinang buntag nianhi…Pag-abot niya sa office, gi-serve na ang warrant,” Emia told reporters in a teleconference.

According to the CIDG officer, Teves was wanted for three counts of violating the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression law.

Both the Teves brothers had been accused of masterminding the assassination of ex-Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo.

The country’s Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC) them declared them and 12 others as terrorists for their alleged involvement in multiple murders and harassments in Negros Oriental, including that of Degamo’s.
