Repollo bags 12-under title

LYRA Mae Repollo came out as the only bright spot for the Cebuano netters yesterday after the explosive little bundle gave Cebu City its lone medal in the Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group tournament at the Sto. Niño Tennis Club in Bohol.

Repollo salvaged some sort of pride for the visiting junior netters in the Philta Group 2 tournament after she blasted compatriot Phel Hazel Coderos, 6-0, 6-0, to snag the 12-Under Girls’ championship title.

Coderos earlier made sure it will be an all-Cebu finals in the 12-Under division after she scored an upset win over No.2 seed Corazon Lambonao in the quarterfinals.

Another Cebuano bet, John Kenneth Tenepre of Mandaue City, wasn’t as lucky as he yielded the championship title of the 12-Under Boys division to John Earl Mendez due to fatigue.

The top-seeded Tenepre bowed out of his championship match up with Mendez in the second set with the latter leading by a set, 7-5, 4-1.

Tenepre was feeling the effects of his grueling three-set thriller victory over Teodoro Castro, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 10-7, in the semis.
