DO-IT-YOURSELF OR STORE-BOUGHT PRESENT

By: Vanessa Claire Lucero June 21,2015 - 09:03 AM

What will you give on Father’s Day?

WHY settle for a store-bought gift when you can make one yourself for your father on Father’s Day?

“My father works every day to be able to send me to school. This is one way for me to put  myself in his shoes for a day and working to make something,” college student Choi Ranoa said.

“Making a gift is more personal. Store-bought gifts are easy and don’t really need much thought. You buy it and it’s instant. It’s already there,” she added.

Other like-minded people look for inspiration from websites like Tumblr and Pinterest.

Theses  sites provide a fountain of ideas and step-by-step instructions for cost-effective, easy-to-make projects.

Cheaper

Suggestions for easy do-it-yourself Father’s Day gifts include writing a letter, drawing something, making a collage of personal photos and cooking your father’s favorite dishes.

“In some ways, it can be cheaper than buying an actual item, because you tend to become more resourceful and look for materials within your budget,” Choi said.

For  baking or cooking, however, the costs can be quite high but are also very rewarding, Choi said.

For some people, the mantra for gift-giving is: Go big or go home.

“I would make something and buy something too,” said 23-year-old Zelina of Danao City.

“I never give a person just one gift because that’s my way of showing my dad how much I value him.”

Some people add personal touches to their store-bought items.

Regardless of what one buys or makes for their fathers, both Zelina and Choi agree that it should come from the heart.
