Justin Lascoña used to love to play on the piano and create music. He  especially loved hearing his mother’s praises after he played his pieces.

But his talent died after he lost his hearing at age 12. Lascoña could no longer hear the music he so loved to listen to and he could no longer hear his mother’s voice.

Five years after losing his hearing Lascoña, a resident of barangay Cogon-Pardo, Cebu City rekindled his love for playing the piano by playing his first piece at the PWD (Persons with Disabilities) Got Talent show.

Last Friday afternoon’s event was held at Cebu City Hall’s Social Hall and drew hundreds of PWDs from 10 city barangays.

The show was held in observance of PWD week held every third week of July.

“I’m happy that Justin is playing again. But I am happier seeing Justin smiling again because he’s playing again,” said Raissa Lascoña, Justin’s mother, as her seventeen-year-old son played The Prayer on the piano with a choir of ten PWD children.

In a small sheet of paper, Lascoña wrote his sentiments on being a PWD. “Life as a PWD is not easy, but each and everyone of us is trying our best to make it in this world, and I hope that everyone will help us reach our full potential,” he said.

Cebu City Councilor Sisinio Andales said the event is aimed at giving PWDs a venue to showcase their talents to the public.

“Just because they are PWDs does not mean we hold them back from the things they want to do, and the talents they want to share,” said Andales, who chairs the Cebu City Youth Development Commission (CCYDC).
