Jealousy shoots girlfriend dead then kills self
A 20-year-old hotel management student was shot dead in a tragic confrontation with her boyfriend, who allegedly killed her in a fit of jealousy before shooting himself in his room in sitio Little Dalaguete, Cebu City.
Jennylyn Avila, a student Asian College of Technology, died of a gunshot in the head fired by a .45 caliber pistol.
Police said her boyfriend, Trasona Olmedo, 28, was also found dead of single shot in the head.
Their bodies were found lying side by side on the bed.
Olmedo’s father, Melchor, told police two gunshots were heard coming from his son’s room upstairs. This prompted family members to rush in.
SPO4 Alex Dacua, homicide investigator, said according to the father, the two students had been arguing often lately and that his son was jealous.
Melchor said he had a talk with the girlfriend last Saturday night and thought she and his son had patched up their differences.
A minor allegedly witnessed the shooting in the room. Police are questioning the boy to find out what really happened.
According to homicide investigators, Avila, who was from Leyte province usually stayed in Olmedo’s house and that her boyfriend was financially supporting her studies.
Manatad said the account of the boy witness would clarify whether the shooting was a crime of passion.
Manatad said Olmedo’s father admitted that it was his son who shot Avila before he killed himself.
