Rainwater swamps Gold’s Gym in Ayala
Rainwater gushed from the roof and flowed into the lobby of Gold’s Gym in Ayala Center Cebu.
Law student Philip Adrian Nazario took a 56-second video and uploaded it on his Facebook account.
Nazario told Cebu Daily News that he arrived at the gym at around 7 p.m. He was changing at the locker room when he noticed that water flowed behind the door of the men’s locker room.
“I overheard a utility person of Gold’s saying that the drain was clogged outside the door where the water was coming from,” Nazario recalled.
He said he felt something was wrong so he went out for safety. He remembered that in June this year, part of the ceiling of Cinema 5 in Ayala Center
Cebu collapsed when the water sprinkler system in the ceiling malfunctioned, leaving nine people injured.
“It all happened very fast like five to ten minutes and water was flowing to the lobby and the hallway of the mall,” he added.
Other gym members who were heading home informed gym personnel who immediately acted to contain the water.
He said janitors and security personnel acted quickly.
In an official statement from mall operator Cebu Holdings Inc., corporate communications manager Jeanette Japzon said water from heavy rain entered a door access from the roof deck since a drain in the area had been blocked.
“The area was cordoned off to facilitate clean-up, prevent accidents and to conduct a safety inspection. The area was then re-opened for use,” Japzon added.
