NBI arrests woman for illegal recruitment

A 35-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly defrauding 19 overseas job seekers.

Bebie Jean Deniega, a native of Dumanjug town, southwest Cebu, was arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7) in an entrapment operation at a coffee shop in uptown Cebu City.

Some 19 individuals filed a complaint before the NBI-7, accusing Deniega of asking them to pay between P25,000 and P35,000 each for jobs in Japan.

Deniega, however, failed to deliver her promise to help them land jobs in Japan.

Edwin Vino, one of the complainants, said he gave P35,000 to Deniega.

In an interview over radio dyHP, Vino said he and Deniega had to meet in one of the malls since the suspect has no permanent office.

“She (Deniega) told us that if we will be able to give her the full amount, she will be able to send us abroad,” Vino said in Cebuano.

NBI-7 assistant director Augusto Isidoro cautioned those who want to work abroad to deal with those who have a permit from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
