AFTER POSTING a morale-boosting win over the previously unbeaten Cignal HD Spikers, the Petron Blaze Spikers gun for another one when they take on the RC Cola-Air Force today in the 2015 Philippine Superliga (PSL) women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Game time is at 6:15 pm following the clash between pacesetter Cignal and Foton in the 4:15 pm curtain-raiser.
Despite being one of the strongest teams on paper, the Blaze Spikers suffered some hiccups in the first round after absorbing a pair of sorry losses to Cignal last Oct. 10 and Philips Gold last Oct. 17.
But in their grudge match against the erstwhile unbeaten HD Spikers Tuesday night, a more fluid and more motivated Petron squad showed up as it came up with some key adjustments down the stretch to pull off a dramatic 25-16, 14-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-13 victory.
Brazilian reinforcement Rupia Inck came through with a stellar performance in the final stretch of the deciding set while playmaker Erica Adachi completely took control as the Blaze Spikers survived another action-packed and emotional battle that featured long rallies, booming smashes and dramatic finishes never before seen in any local club tournament in the country.
