Taxi hits center island debris; driver and passenger injured
A TAXI overturned yesterday dawn after it rammed debris of a dismantled concrete center island, along M.J. Cuenco Avenue and General Maxilom Avenue in Cebu City.
The driver Manuel Jose Rubia Echavez and his passenger, 31-year-old Mary Ann Pasia were both injured.
The island was removed for road widening but the driver didn’t notice chunks of the debris on the road, said PO2 Chady Jungoy, traffic investigator.
The driver of the Toyota sedan (GXV-326) of Tiger Company picked up the passenger along Osmeña Boulevard about 5 a.m.
The accident happened at 5:15 a.m.
The driver wounded his arm. His female passenger complained of pain in her shoulders when paramedics of the Emergency Response Unit Foundation (ERUF) rushed them to Cebu Doctor’s Hospital.
PO2 Jungoy said that there were edges of concrete left in the area where the island used to be.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama had ordered the center islands and iron railings removed from the roads early this year to make the roads wider for motorists.
