The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles engaged in another lopsided campaign in the recently concluded Mandaue City meet held at the SHS-AdC campus in barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
SHS-AdC’s track and field squad added 12 gold medals yesterday to spearhead the team’s campaign in the annual meet organized by the Mandaue City Sports Commission and the Department of Education (DepEd) Mandaue City division.
Winners in this meet will represent Mandaue City in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet in Naga in February 2016.
All in all, the track team of SHS-AdC collected a total of 22 gold medals with its girls’ squad sweeping all of the events in the two-day multi-sporting meet. The team added seven silvers and seven bronze medals.
Sprinters Britney Moira Cañete and Enrico Avila finished with five gold medals each to lead the gold medalists for SHS-AdC.
Cañete won a gold medal in the 100-meter dash, 200m run and 100m hurdles. She teamed up with Catherine Angeli Yu, Catherine Dale Mayol and Carmela Dublin to rule the 4x100m and 4x400m relay events.
Avila added three gold medals yesterday after he teamed up with Kenjie Dahili, Julian Matthew Pansacala and Lorenzo Cabatingan to top the 4x100m and 4x400m relay and placed first in the 100m dash.
Yu topped the 3,000m and 1,500m runs while Mayol bagged two gold medals by topping the 800m run and 400m runs.
Pearl Angelie Abellar won a gold medal in the long jump yesterday to finish with two gold medals also as she topped last Saturday’s 400m hurdles.
Magis Eagles power thrower Shanelle Demilys Siasoyco dominated the discus throw and shot put secondary girls’ events. May Ki Joy Park topped the javelin throw and triple jump events.

Meanwhile, the Magis Eagles’ vaunted elementary and secondary basketball teams crushed their respective foes in the championship games yesterday at SHS-AdC’s covered courts.
The reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) juniors’ champions Magis Eagles Team A routed the Paknaan National High School, 111-18, while the elementary squad blasted the Mandaue City Central Elementary School, 78-17.
In elementary athletics, Umapad Elementary School finished with seven gold medals along with eight silver medals and seven bronze medals.
Canduman Elementary School collected four gold medals along six silver medals and five bronzes while Umapad Elementary School and Mandaue City Central School finished with four gold medals. The Mandaue City School For the Arts finished their campaign with three gold medals.
