Dilapidated bus serves as E-Learning Center for Mabolo school children

Mabolo Elementary School became the first recipient of the Visayan Electric Company’s (Veco) E-Learning Center project.

Veco turned over the center in a ceremony held last week.

The E-Learning Center is a pilot project of Veco that is made up of an old, dilapidated bus that has been transformed and refurbished using upcycled materials from the Veco scrapyard.

Veco also equipped the center with 10 Ipad minis, an Apple TV, and a 50-inch LED TV.

Anton Perdices, Veco senior vice president, said this is just the beginning of a project that they hope they could continue in other schools.

Teresita Manzanades, school principal, said they were very grateful to be the first beneficiary of Veco’s E-Learning project.

Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella also expressed his gratitude to Veco for the project which he deemed to be very relevant.

“The importance of this E-Learning Center that has been provided to us by Veco, especially with the advent of technology, cannot be overemphasized,” Labella said.

“This would pave the way for our students to learn through electronic gadgets,” he added.

The E-Learning Center, which costs around P1.4 million, was funded by the proceeds from the sale of Veco’s disposed scrap wires and used transformer oil.

Veco Community Relations Officer Eric Ching said they are planning to create more projects of this kind to raise the bar of teaching-learning system for the students in Cebu.
