New bridge, sports complex projects turned over in Bonbon

City officials led the blessing and turnover ceremony of a new bridge and sports complex in the mountain village of Bonbon in Cebu City on Tuesday morning.

Bonbon Barangay Captain Alex Ibarita thanked Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama for heeding their request to build a bridge so children did not have to cross the river to get to school.

“Damgo gyud ni nato nga gituman sa mayor. Dugay na ni gipangayo nato. Kung wala ang mayor, wala gyud ni mahimo (It had been our dream that was made into a reality by our mayor. We had been asking for this. If not for the mayor, this would not have happened) ,” said Ibarita.

Construction of the bridge, which cost at least P14 million, started in 2011 and was completed last year.

Before the bridge was constructed, Ibarita said residents had to cross a river or use a bamboo raft to get to the town proper.

The improvement of the existing sports complex cost P399,994.

The inauguration and blessing of the two facilities were held on Tuesday in time for the 60th birthday of Ibarita.
