BATCH 1998/Kaking continued to grope for form since scoring a huge upset win as it tasted a second straight defeat at the hands of Batch 1988/Dewfoam, 51-56, last Thursday in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 15th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
Batch ’98 owns the distinction of the being the first team to defeat back-to-back defending champion Batch 1999/Southchoice Inc. in three years — a 100-99 decision that snapped the latter’s amazing 42-game win streak.
But Batch ’98 had since struggled since scoring the huge win last week, succumbing to Batch ’88’s strong second half showing for their third loss in six games.
Gregorio Aguilar scored 16 points, Erwin Yu collected 14 markers and 12 rebounds, while Richard Yu added 13 for the Batch ’88, which improved to 3-4 (win-loss).
Eric So paced Batch ’98 with 24 markers, while Elvis Evangelista chipped in 16.
In the other game, Batch 2009 picked up just its second win in seven games via a 63-57 spanking of Batch 2000.
Harold James Tan came up with a solid all-around game to lead Batch 2009 as he produced 25 points, 15 rebounds, two blocked shots, two steals and one assist.
Alfie Miranda Sy contributed 14 points for Batch 2009.
Michael Tan scored 17 points, Bryan Lo fired 16 and Barry Climaco scattered 14 as Batch 2000 suffered its sixth defeat in seven matches.
